Spindle or spinning top — ni production together with Mr. António Vitorino da Graça, using fig-tree wood from Santo Antão, Figueiral Ra Grande.
Agroecological cotton from the ni crop in collaboration with AAPCM and Mulheres do Vale.
In the Cape Verdean language of the island of São Vicente, Cabo Verde, xtód literally means ‘be’, yet that would be a reductive translation for the island’s worldview. Its poetic sense of being and dwelling in island life evokes a posture of pause, to reinvent the relationship of body and mind with time. It is this relationship of being and dwelling that this spindle-top invites us to experience. Now learning to spin cotton, now twirling like a top, both for a contemporary experience of ancestral knowledge.
