Cotton is the matter that mediates the dialogue between the mountain, people, animals and other beings, in a connection that unfolds from the Calhau Valley, Madeiral, on the island of São Vicente, Cape Verde.
This island already seems to be the inhospitable future of planet Earth. It is with this sense of an apocalyptic future that sustainability permeates this series, drawing on a five-year conversation about cultivation and intimacy with the land and its people. The condition of the relational being in this space-time is traversed by the misfortune of constant droughts. In the face of the pests that gather to feed, the perseverance of the communities who sow in the dust, waiting for the rains, withstands the contingency of these adversities, metamorphosing the cosmology of being in the valley.
The remnants of a previous passage serve as matter for the new one. The cycle of resources feeds utopias. The dance is sustained between fears, desires and the need to adapt. The choreography of resistance thus encompasses the behaviours and forms that imbue the possibility of a new context.
