“…in the face of the current climate crisis caused by human action, the sensory connections that once bound us to these environments and their non-human inhabitants are gradually disappearing, sometimes irreversibly: landscapes devastated by fire, submerged territories, species extinction…
In this context, how can we preserve and pass on what is disappearing or has already been lost? How can we repair the broken ties with the past and find paths towards new possible futures?”

Neve Insular [Cabo Verde]
A lesson in resilience and continuity, this cotton — which Rainho and Monteiro describe as “utopian” — provides them every year with small quantities of raw material, which they use to create objects and to ensure the transmission of weaving gestures and techniques within the community. Drawing on the past and embracing scarcity as a constructive challenge, the duo is building new narratives and forging new traditions and collective memories on the island.
